Chinese landscape painting with mountains, water and travellers

Why East Moment exists

China is not only inherited. It is being remixed, played and imagined.

East Moment follows cultural roots into music, movies, games, cities and technologies through the people shaping them.

Our purpose

East Moment helps the world understand how China lives, creates, plays, remembers and changes.

We connect cultural roots with the music, films, games, people, places and technologies shaping China now and next.

Reference pages can define a festival, game or musical instrument. East Moment takes the next step: why it matters now, who is reshaping it, what an overseas reader might miss and how an inherited form enters contemporary life.

The site therefore has two structures at once. Search-led subject hubs provide clear answers across Chinese culture, entertainment, life and technology. Editorial forms then tell those subjects through living guides, features, profiles, interviews and visual stories. People remain visible inside the field where their work matters.

The clarity of a guide, the care of a museum, the boundaries of scholarship, the energy of contemporary media and the warmth of lived experience.

What we do differently

Begin with what people notice

Steam on a restaurant window, the pause before tea is poured, the argument over a festival recipe. Small observations often open the largest cultural questions.

Travel without becoming generic

We follow traditions across regions, generations and borders while keeping their local names, disagreements and changing meanings visible.

Know what kind of truth it is

Personal memory, local custom, historical evidence, legend and modern marketing are not interchangeable. We label the difference instead of smoothing it away.

Research without writing a report

Most of the writing is Lijun's original observation and interpretation. When a precise historical, scholarly, health or official claim needs verification, we link to the strongest primary or institutional source available.

What “Editorially reviewed” means

Facts and names

Dates, place names, transliterations, protected origins and important distinctions are checked against appropriate records before publication.

Claims and boundaries

Memory, interpretation, legend, marketing and established evidence are kept visibly separate. Health or safety claims receive stricter treatment.

Links and images

Internal links, image rights and essential references are checked. The badge does not imply outside expert review unless an article explicitly names one.

The East Moment Weekly

Culture, creativity and what is changing in China.

A selective editorial dispatch built around one essential story, cultural discoveries, community highlights and a note from Lijun. Choose the subjects you want East Moment to follow with you.

What should East Moment send you?

A visible human voice

Written by Lijun, with curiosity, memory and room for a small smile.

Lijun is the founder and cultural writer behind East Moment. He has lived in China for four decades. The writing draws on that ordinary but deep proximity: meals eaten across regions, habits observed over time, and the sensitivity to notice where a clean definition stops matching real life.

Lived experience is not presented as universal authority. When a subject reaches beyond personal observation, the article names the limit and uses specialist, institutional or primary evidence where it adds real value.

Transparency

The romance stays in the prose. The records stay accountable.
