Reader-built field atlas

Cloud Motif Neighbors Atlas

A cloud becomes legible through its neighbor and its compositional job: carry, divide, frame, surround or connect before it is labeled auspicious.

The evidence pair

Two photographs that can be compared

Frame 1

The complete object with material, scale and ornamental zones recoverable

Frame 2

A detail showing one cloud form beside the motif or boundary it affects

What the note must add

Record the source, material and documented date when known. Use the institution's pattern name when available, distinguish cloud collar, band and field, and state when resemblance alone cannot support xiangyun or ruyi terminology.

Submissions remain private until East Moment reviews the rights, specificity and usefulness of the record.

Editorial founding evidence

A visible baseline, with the gaps left open

These are East Moment editorial records built from authorized or rights-cleared imagery. They are not reader submissions and do not count toward the public record total.

A complete robe and an unmatched dragon fragment

Unmatched editorial scale baseline

A Qing court robe shows clouds connecting dragons and waves across a complete garment, while a separate textile fragment makes the local cloud-dragon spacing easier to inspect.

Qing imperial court robe with dragons, clouds and waves across the garment
Visible: a complete garment field and its zones. Missing: a matched close detail.
Textile fragment with a dragon moving among clouds
Visible: local cloud-dragon spacing on another textile. This is not a crop from the robe.

Still missing: The close fragment is not a detail from the robe. The pair cannot reconstruct one garment, name a wearer or prove that the same cloud repeat occupied the same position.

Approved reader records

The Atlas in public

No complete-object cloud comparison has cleared review yet.

The first approved record will keep a cloud beside the motif and object it organizes. An isolated curl labeled auspicious is not enough.
