Nanjing Duck-to-Season Atlas

Duck opens the door to Nanjing food, but it should not close the meal. Keeping one duck preparation beside a seasonal, vegetable or sweet counterpoint from the same day shows the city beyond its most famous ingredient.

The evidence pair

Two photographs that can be compared

Frame 1

The duck preparation as bought or served, including the portion, liquid, wrapper or bowl that defines how it is eaten

Frame 2

The non-duck seasonal, vegetable or sweet counterpoint from that same day, with its serving context and identifiable ingredients visible

What the note must add

Name the date, approximate times, neighborhoods or shop types, dishes and source of any seasonal claim. Explain what the second dish added to the day. Do not infer curing, stock, fat, halal practice, harvest date, protected origin or ingredient safety from appearance alone.

Submissions remain private until East Moment reviews the rights, specificity and usefulness of the record.

Editorial founding evidence

A visible baseline, with the gaps left open

These are East Moment editorial records built from authorized or rights-cleared imagery. They are not reader submissions and do not count toward the public record total.

Saltwater duck and osmanthus lotus root before one shared day

Unmatched editorial contrast baseline

Authorized photographs make two Nanjing food structures visible: sliced saltwater duck served as a pale cold dish and a separate sweet lotus-root preparation presented with osmanthus.

Sliced Nanjing-style saltwater duck arranged on a white plate
Visible: one pale sliced duck presentation. Missing: purchase context, portion decision and the non-duck stop from the same day.
Nanjing-style sweet lotus root presented with osmanthus
Visible: one non-duck sweet preparation. Its season, source and relationship to the photographed duck are not documented.

Still missing: The photographs do not share a date, diner, route or table. They cannot establish the duck's curing or cooking method, verify the lotus root's season or osmanthus source, show portion decisions or prove that the sweet dish changed how one person understood the city.

Approved reader records

The Atlas in public

The first complete Nanjing duck-to-season day is still waiting.

Approved records must keep the duck and its non-duck counterpoint inside one day. Two attractive dishes from separate visits can establish the question, but they cannot show how a real Nanjing eating route moved beyond duck.
