People's Park teahouse

Crowded bamboo tables beneath trees and covered walkways at a teahouse in Chengdu People's Park
People's Park teahouse

This is my strongest answer to anyone who calls Chengdu 'laid-back' and stops thinking. A crowded teahouse is not empty leisure; it is social infrastructure. Bamboo chairs can hold gossip, business, family time, card games, phone scrolling and complete silence within the same afternoon. The room has no walls, yet everybody understands how to occupy it. Chengdu's real talent is turning public time into something people want to share. Do not photograph the teacup and miss the human choreography around it. Where is your city's public living room?
