Xi'an City Wall

Xi'an after dark is not ancient China preserved in amber. It is modern theatre built around old masonry: saturated red walls, gold outlines, searchlights, reflections and a full moon competing for attention. I love the drama, but it must be read honestly. Night lighting reveals the wall's scale while hiding much of its material texture. See one gate in daylight, then return after dark and enjoy the transformation as a contemporary city performance.
